The report of the High-Level Advisory Board on Effective Multilateralism outlines an ambitious plan to overhaul global governance.
‘A Breakthrough for People and Planet: Effective and Inclusive Global Governance for Today and the Future’ identifies concrete, actionable recommendations that the multilateral system can adopt to better navigate and address current and future challenges – from the climate crisis to rising inequality and increasing threats to democracy and stability.
Recommendations include UN Security Council reforms, an overhaul of the global financial system, a just digital transition, and measures to ensure global decision-making is more inclusive. It also makes a strong case for the inclusion of women and girls, arguing that gender equality needs to be at the heart of a reinvigorated global multilateral architecture.
The report was informed by a global public consultation and builds on wide-ranging inputs from across the UN system, civil society, academia, and other diverse stakeholders. They will be shared widely with Member States – and others – leading up to next year’s pivotal Summit of the Future.
