Rabbi Sir David Rosen Calls on Believers to Uphold the Value of Science and Pray for Social Solidarity
20200315Rabbi Sir David Rosen, head of interreligious affairs for the American Jewish Committee and Co-President of Religions for Peace, urges global believers to uphold and appreciate the value of science, which he calls the “manifestation of the divine presence in the world,” the during this unprecedented global public health crisis. He further emphasizes, “It would be wrong to sit with one’s hands folded and ask for divine intervention and not do everything physically possible. Everything scientifically physically possible becomes a spiritual obligation.”
Rabbi Rosen continues to elevate the crucial role of prayer in this time, stating that “Prayer is also of vital importance: in social solidarity, care for others, and providing the reinvigoration to responsible in the way we behave.” Prayer provides many people with the ability to look beyond themselves and their own needs and to shift their perspective to care for the vulnerable, and this type of selflessness is very much needed to confront the COVID-19 pandemic.
