Ms. Sohaa Khan

Titles
Media and Communications Specialist (2021-2024)
Ms. Sohaa Khan served as the Media and Communications Specialist at Religions for Peace from 2021-2024.

Sohaa graduated with an M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations from Seton Hall’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations with specialisations in International Law and Human Rights as well as Asian Studies. Her areas of interest are in studying social media and communications and the impact that the online world can have on inciting and exacerbating religious, ethnic, and racial tensions and violence. She touched on these issues in her articles Storytime: Social Media Leads to Violence and Religious Persecution at Home and Abroad: The Case of India. Her Master’s thesis focused on how hate speech posted on social media leads to violence against other religions and/or religious minorities in Pakistan and India. Her findings concluded that unregulated hate speech on various social media platforms gives way for the dissemination of misinformation to spread quickly and often, political and religious actors do nothing to stop the spread. She plans to obtain her Ph.D. to continue and expand on this topic and focus on the effects of artificial intelligence and how it can create false narratives that lead to more hate and result in more violence, and what can be done to address the root issues of these problems.

She served as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Diplomacy and International Relations, the official publication for the School of Diplomacy, from 2021 to 2022. Under her leadership, the Journal published its 23rd issue, “Rethinking and Revisiting Diplomacy,” which serves as a discourse and examination on the failures and futures of traditional and health diplomacy processes.

At Religions for Peace, she was in charge of developing communications plans, designing graphics, maintaining the website and social media platforms, creating materials in collaboration with the development team, and all other communications related tasks.
