Ms. Kristine Leonardo

Ms. Kristine “Liz” Leonardo serves Religions for Peace International as the Programme Officer for the Multi-Religious Humanitarian Fund, Gender & Environment.

In January 2022, she joined Religions for Peace International as a Volunteer. She wrote and designed the 2021 Annual Report to highlight the ongoing mobilisation efforts undertaken by Religions for Peace through its 90 national and 6 regional Interreligious Councils (IRCs) across the globe. From August 2022 to January 2023, she served as the Assistant to the Secretary General’s Office, through which she assisted the former Secretary General and the Senior Assistant to the Secretary General with day-to-day administration, travel coordination, event management, internal and external communications, and writing.

In her current role, she coordinates Religions for Peace’s flagship Multi-Religious Humanitarian Fund, as well as its Strategic Priorities of advancing gender equality; nurturing a sustainable environment; and championing freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. She prepared the organisation’s 2022 Annual Report, as well as the legacy publication Building a Better World: The Women Leading Religions for Peace. She also coordinates interreligious collaboration and management for Religions for Peace regional offices in Europe and MENA.

In May 2022, Kristine graduated from Seton Hall University with an M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations with specialisations in International Organisations, and International Law and Human Rights. Before receiving her M.A., she completed her B.S. in Diplomacy and International Relations, with minors in French and Criminal Justice.

Before joining Religions for Peace, she served as an Immigration Intern at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), where she coordinated and managed the immigration applications of over 100 asylum-seekers and refugee families, and provided translation and interpretation for several French-speaking clients. Kristine also served as the St. John Paul II Fellow at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations, where she primarily followed the work of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in its consideration of agenda items on decolonisation, peacekeeping operations, special political missions, and humanitarian issues. She prepared reports for the Holy See offices in the Vatican on the meetings of various UN agencies, including the 76th High-Level General Debate of the UNGA, UN Security Council, and the Fourth Committee of the UNGA.
