Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together

Inaugural Human Fraternity Seminar on the Role of Interreligious Dialogue towards Universal Enjoyment of the Right of Freedom of Thought, Conscience, and Belief in the Context of Global Crises and War

Considering growing polarization within the international community and in particular the ongoing invasion of the sovereign nation-state of Ukraine, Seton Hall University will convene a seminar on “Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” – aimed at fostering social awareness and dialogue among global citizens of all religions and beliefs. In partnership with the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations and Religions for Peace International, the University invites its entire student body, faculty, staff, and friends to galvanize the efforts of peoples of all religions who support the international community’s concerted efforts to overcome ongoing crises and war and bring about lasting peace, harmony, and stability, as called for by the Holy Father Pope Francis together with other faith leaders of the world’s religions.

Today’s world is plagued by crises, wars, and unilateral actions that advocate religious, ethnic, racial, and political hatred and persecution, thereby undermining the spirit of tolerance and respect for diversity – i.e., Human Fraternity. In all corners of the world, human suffering has been exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and concurrent global crises such as climate change, poverty, mass displacement, armed conflict, and war. As such, there is a great need to recognize the invaluable contribution of peoples of all religions and faith traditions to Human Fraternity, and the contribution that dialogue among all religious and faith-based groups can make towards an improved awareness and understanding of the shared values of all humankind.

The Inaugural Human Fraternity Seminar seeks to highlight the value of interreligious dialogue and collaboration in tackling the world’s most pressing issues, and in ensuring that “no one is left behind” amid persistent crises, ever-growing polarization, and war. It aims to galvanize the efforts of religious institutions and faith-based organizations to respond to such crises and to raise awareness about the obstacles and opportunities for fostering Human Fraternity among global citizens to bring about peace, harmony, and stability – especially in deeply divided societies.
