One of the many actions recently undertaken by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) and Religions for Peace as part of their global partnership included an in-person Positive Peace workshop for members of the Religions for Peace’s Interreligious Council of Colombia (IRC–Colombia).
The aim of the workshop was to help highlight and measurably increase the Council’s contribution to the field of Positive Peace. The in-depth session followed on from a number of introductory sessions held across Latin America and the Caribbean earlier this year, and will inform other workshops being planned with Interreligious Councils across Africa and beyond in 2022. It also marked the start of a broader collaboration between IEP and the IRC-Colombia, which will include a large Positive Peace convening later this year, incorporating a broad set of senior state and non-state actors.
“The workshop was very important to us and allowed us to broaden our vision and develop a more systemic approach to peacebuilding,” says Sister Constanza Arango, Secretary General, IRC-Colombia. “The exercises we did during the workshop helped us go from the conceptual to the concrete, and provided us with a number of ideas for strengthening existing projects and developing future ones. Importantly, the workshop allowed for us to converge around a common purpose while leveraging all the richness of the different faith communities present.”
IEP and Religions for Peace’s Religions and Peace Academy and workshops provide a deeper appreciation of the attitudes, institutes and structures that create and sustain peace and help provide the tools needed to strengthen the peacebuilding impact of any multi religious project, whether it be environmental, gender, development or poverty related.
